According to Taiwan's *Economic Daily News*, the Taichung District Court recently convicted a Vietnamese man surnamed Su of "special money laundering," marking Taiwan's first case of a personal crypto dealer being sentenced under this charge. Prosecutors stated that Su engaged in illegal personal crypto trading without verifying customer identities, the source and destination of funds, or keeping transaction records. He received 16.91 million USDT, valued at approximately $15.6 million, and sold the USDT through the OKX OTC trading system. The buyers transferred Vietnamese Dong to the electronic wallets designated by Su's clients, allowing him to profit from exchange rate differences of about $6,200. The court ruled that personal crypto dealers conducting virtual currency-to-fiat exchanges fall under the category of virtual asset service providers and are subject to anti-money laundering regulations. Su was ultimately sentenced to 1 year and 3 months, with a 4-year probation, and ordered to pay NT$500,000 (approximately $15,000) to the national treasury.
