As of 22 October 2026, Ethereum’s rollups hold about $31 billion in assets. More than $25 billion of that sits on two networks, Base and Arbitrum One. Dozens of other teams, after years of engineering, share what’s left.

Morph is one of those teams, and so I’ll say what most of us won’t: the market has already picked, and it didn’t pick on just technology.

On cost, everyone has delivered. Ethereum’s website now puts the average transaction fee across its supported networks at a fraction of a cent. That makes a considerable difference to what developers can build and what users can afford to do. But when every chain is cheap, cheap stops being a reason to choose.

At Morph, we learned this the slow way. We began with the ambition of building a

“consumer-centric” blockchain. In plain English, we wanted developers to create applications that people could use in everyday life — games, social apps, and everything else. It was a broad brief, and that was the trouble. When you are for “everything”, nobody can say what you really are.

Today, we are giving that ambition a more concrete shape around people’s financial lives. We are building a business that brings together blockchain infrastructure and financial products, with partners helping us extend that reach.

Nobody Picks A Network

A chain is one of those things no one notices. If a payment fails, if a balance takes minutes to settle, or if a fee jumps when traffic does, customers immediately blame the product, not the network underneath it. So, we now build the products people touch, and keep the chain as something they never have to think about. It looks like this:

A trading platform needs infrastructure that can handle a market where orders and prices change constantly. A chain built for “everything” queues that traffic. So we built Tachyon, a network, designed only for trading.

A Web3 freelancer finishes a project and sends the client a payment link using Morph Payments. The payment lands in the freelancer’s wallet with a record their accountant can read. They just got paid, they did not go, “Let me get paid on Morph Chain.”

A customer at Lawson in Japan buys a bento and pays in stablecoins through NETSTARS, our payments partner. Morph settles the payment in the background but the shopper may never hear our name.

My point is: No one chooses a chain, people simply choose things that work. But it doesn’t mean we throw the chain out of the equation. There is a reason to still hold the network to a higher standard than anything else — every product is built on it.

Where we go from here

The next winners won’t be the ones that are “fastest” or “cheapest”. Instead, they’ll be the ones a person uses to get paid on a Saturday and finds a reason to keep their money in the ecosystem. The aim is to build a loop where you receive your payment and send it on to another product to make it work harder for you.

We are approaching this from two angles:

The first is Morph Payments. Morph Payments isn’t a stablecoin payments platform that compels you to use only the Morph chain. Customers can send USDC or USDT over any of the major Ethereum networks, Solana or Tron. They can pay from a wallet or direct from an exchange. A single dashboard allows an account or a finance team to track, edit or cancel transactions.

The second is building with the right partners because we don’t plan to build every piece ourselves. A business that gets paid stablecoins will still need a custodian it trusts, an OTC desk for large conversions, and a card to spend from. Each is a job that already has a provider that does it well and our work is to make them work together so a customer doesn’t have to stitch the pieces together just to turn every payment into money they can use.

If someone uses Morph for years and never learns the term “layer 2”, we would have done our job.
