Ethereum has risen!
June's Ethereum seemed like the rainy season, falling endlessly, and E-Guard has been both replenishing positions and questioning life.
However, with the recent cooling of non-farm payroll data and the return of interest rate cut expectations, ETH has gradually warmed up from its lows.
At this pivotal moment, Vitalik has brought the Lean Ethereum roadmap to the forefront, stating, “This is Ethereum's third major update.”
In simple terms, it aims to redesign the consensus layer (CL), data layer (DL), and execution layer (EL) from first principles, making Ethereum simpler, safer (quantum resistant), more verifiable, and more scalable.
Recently, the Ethereum ecosystem has indeed been very active: first, the Ethereum Foundation laid off 20%, then the protocol layer launched the Lean Ethereum technical roadmap, and with the establishment of EthLabs, a new organization formed by former core researchers from the Ethereum Foundation along with Bitmine and Sharplink, is Ethereum ready to split its work and “go light”?
Without further ado, let's take a look at the optimistic and cautious views from E-Guard insiders on the market outlook
Optimists: Ethereum is refocusing
sassal.eth @sassal0x |Founder of The Daily Gwei|Xhunt Global Influence Ranking: 99
Sassal's attitude is very direct, urging everyone to pay attention to @leanEthereum and giving it an extremely high evaluation.
He believes this will significantly reduce the demand for nodes (in the future, nodes could even run on smartwatches), greatly enhancing decentralization.
Core Judgment:
There is nothing more bullish in the entire crypto ecosystem—there is none. Lean Ethereum is the conclusion; it is the ultimate form that blockchain can and should become. It is infinitely scalable and completely decentralized—only Ethereum can achieve that.
Ryan Sean Adams @RyanSAdams|Co-Founder of Bankless|Xhunt Global Influence Ranking: 115
Ryan tends to see Lean Ethereum as a symbol of Ethereum entering the next stage.
In recent years, market complaints about ETH have focused on several points: the roadmap is too complex, L2 is siphoning value, mainnet fees are declining, and the foundation is slow to act. But Lean Ethereum refocuses on the fundamental issues of Ethereum: security, scalability, privacy, quantum resistance, and the long-term credibility of the protocol itself.
Core Judgment:
Ethereum does not lack a next chapter; rather, the next chapter shifts from “narrative expansion” to “protocol hardening.” If the Merge was a major reconstruction of the energy and consensus layers, Lean Ethereum feels more like a redesign of Ethereum's long-term foundation.
BITWU @Bitwux |Xhunt Global Influence Ranking: 931
BITWU's perspective leans towards “historical stage theory.”
Ethereum has undergone several critical turning points: the early PoW era addressed the decentralization of smart contracts from 0 to 1; the Merge solved the consensus mechanism and energy consumption issues; and Lean Ethereum may represent Ethereum entering its third wave of reconstruction.
This wave is not about continuing to pile functionality onto the protocol but instead doing subtraction: reducing complexity, compressing verification costs, and enhancing security boundaries so that the main protocol resembles a “minimum trusted base” that can operate for the long term.
Core Judgment:
The keyword for Lean Ethereum is not “fancier,” but “more durable.” Ethereum must prove that it is not an increasingly bloated protocol but rather an infrastructure that can continue to evolve.
Blue Fox@lanhubiji |Xhunt Global Influence Ranking: 1506
Blue Fox focuses more on the long-term technological roadmap behind Lean Ethereum.
From a strawmap perspective, Lean Ethereum is not a minor patch but a protocol reconstruction spanning the next few years: including faster L1, stronger L2 data capabilities, zkEVM/real-time proofs, quantum security, and raising privacy to a primary goal.
This means Ethereum does not just want to continue being the “L2 settlement layer” but is trying to upgrade itself into a more secure, verifiable, and long-term suitable underlying protocol for global finance and applications.
Core Judgment:
Lean Ethereum will not immediately solve the ETH price issue, but it can answer a more fundamental question: how can Ethereum continue to exist in the next decade?
gigi Wealth Pig@gigiz_eth |Xhunt Global Influence Ranking: 3086
gigi's expression is closer to the spirit of E-Guard: Ethereum is not lying flat now, but is shedding old burdens and starting anew.
EF layoffs, budget cuts, and organizational restructuring may seem like contraction; however, when viewed alongside Lean Ethereum, EthLabs, and new ecological organizations, it feels more like a division of labor reorganization.
EF is becoming leaner, focusing on protocol and neutrality; external organizations like EthLabs are taking on more R&D, institutional adoption, and ecological growth. Ethereum has shifted from being “driven by a single foundation” to “multiple ETH-aligned organizations pushing together.”
Core Judgment:
Ethereum is not merely laying off staff; it is reallocating fighting units. In the past, EF bore everything alone; now it is slimming down first, then forming teams, to go into battle lightly.
Xiyu @ohxiyu |Xhunt Global Influence Ranking: 5115
Xiyu states that working in the crypto space “still has to be Ethereum.”
Especially during the window of ETH price rebounding from its lows, Lean Ethereum can easily become a handle for emotional repair.
The market may not price the technical roadmap immediately, but it will first price the “narrative recovery.” For an asset that has long been criticized for lacking a new story, Lean Ethereum at least provides ETH with a new main narrative to discuss.
Core Judgment:
Lean Ethereum is not a single upgrade package; it feels more like a protocol-level renovation. Ethereum is still expanding while redefining itself.
Cautious side: The roadmap is good, but the market does not wait for anyone
Ignas @DefiIgnas|DeFi Researcher|Xhunt Global Influence Ranking: 387
Ignas states that if the Ethereum Foundation can deliver on time, he is bullish on ETH; however, if the Ethereum Foundation's delivery timeline is delayed while the bear market continues, it could be bearish.
Core Judgment:
The Lean Ethereum roadmap is very attractive because it addresses most key concerns raised by the community, but the token economics issue has not yet been addressed. Currently, competitive projects like Tempo and Canton are forming competition for Ethereum in the realm of real-world assets (RWA) and institutional adoption.
Dankrad Feist @dankrad|Former Ethereum Foundation Researcher|Xhunt Global Influence Ranking: 816
Dankrad's attitude is also quite cautious: he acknowledges the direction but criticizes the pace as too slow.
He believes that the idea of Lean Ethereum is good, but if the execution timeline extends to 3-4 years, it will be difficult to satisfy the market. Especially given that AI-assisted R&D has significantly improved engineering efficiency, Ethereum should not advance core upgrades at the old slow pace.
Core Judgment:
Ethereum's biggest problem has never been a lack of planning, but whether it can deliver faster. E-Guard needs not only a vision but also a progress bar.
Summary of Both Views
Optimists believe:
Lean Ethereum is an important signal that Ethereum is refocusing on the underlying protocol.
It compresses the previously complex roadmap into a few key points, responding to the community's most urgent calls: scalability, privacy, quantum resistance, security, and protocol simplification.
For ETH, this is a restoration of the long-term narrative of the world's decentralized computer.
Cautious side believes:
The direction of Lean Ethereum is fine, but the 3-4 year timeline is too slow.
Ethereum's price is built on the realities of whether it can deliver faster, capture value with ETH, and show the market phased results, rather than on a beautiful technological vision.
How to view it finally?
A classic joke on Twitter is, why is Ethereum always at 1700 points each year?
Criticism of Ethereum spending significant energy on L2 and mocking Vitalik as akin to an emperor, only listening to the “slander” from those around him, seems to have become politically correct.
But at least this time, Ethereum is making efforts to organize itself and raise its flag.
Whether July can start on a good note depends on market liquidity and ETH's performance; however, from a narrative perspective, Ethereum has indeed reclaimed a sense of home field advantage that has been long absent.
