On June 17, Coinbase announced a systemic upgrade on social media, listing a series of products and features including AI investment advisor, AI agent trade execution, tokenized stocks, Pre-IPO perpetual contracts, thematic equity index perpetuals, stock and crypto options, upgraded prediction markets, instant token launch channels, USDC collateral credit cards, protected lending of staked assets, a unified global liquidity pool, a modular advanced trading platform, and various infrastructures of the Base ecosystem.
Artiemis CEO commented that Coinbase is the winner of AI-native finance; however, investors in the U.S. stock market reacted lukewarmly. As of today’s close, COIN stock price slightly fell by 0.21%, reported at $169.27, and had a slight increase of 0.44% in after-hours trading.

AI from "Advisory" to "Controllable Execution" Closed Loop
The most noteworthy feature in the Coinbase update is Coinbase Advisor. This is an AI-driven in-app investment advisor that has been registered with the SEC (through Coinbase Advisors, LLC as a registered investment advisor) and is currently available to U.S. Coinbase One members. It can provide personalized multi-asset strategy advice based on user portfolios, real-time news, and internal Coinbase data, including designs for tax-loss harvesting, transforming sudden news into trading ideas across crypto, prediction markets, and equities. The system emphasizes that trades are not executed automatically; users still need to make decisions independently but can receive professional-level analysis support 24/7, lowering the barrier for ordinary investors to access complex strategies.
Meanwhile, Coinbase for Agents has officially launched, in conjunction with Base MCP (Model Context Protocol) and the x402 protocol, allowing users to directly connect any AI agent (such as Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) to their Coinbase account. Users define agent tasks in natural language, for instance, "allocate 60% BTC, 20% ETH, 20% SOL as target configuration and gradually rebalance," enabling the agent to execute spot and derivative trades within isolated sub-accounts or clearly authorized scopes. In terms of security design, agents can only access assets and transaction limits explicitly permitted by users, akin to "gift cards instead of bank accounts."
In terms of tradeable asset categories, Coinbase is evolving into a "full-category asset exchange."
- Tokenized stocks: 1:1 backed by underlying real equity, holders enjoy dividends, shareholder rights, and on-chain utility (lending, staking, gifting, etc.). 24/7 trading will begin for non-U.S. users next month.
- Pre-IPO perpetual contracts and thematic equity index perpetuals: Pre-IPO perpetual contracts like SpaceX have been launched as price discovery tools, with plans to cover companies such as Anthropic and OpenAI; meanwhile, thematic equity index perpetual products such as AI10, China10, Defense10, Tech100 have been introduced.
- Stock and crypto options: Trading for stock options and crypto options on major U.S. stocks, indices, and ETFs will be rolled out in phases, supported by integration with resources like Deribit.
- Prediction market upgrades: New crypto binary contracts (BTC, ETH, SOL, etc. in 15-minute to annual "up/down" markets) and prediction markets across various categories like economic, political, and sports are added.
- Launches new tab: Supports 'instant liquidity mapping and second-level trade execution for on-chain native assets.'
These products make the Coinbase Advanced trading platform the core entry point for cross-asset execution.
Liquidity, Payments, and Real-World Application Integration
The Coinbase update also includes the construction of a unified global liquidity pool (U.S. spot + international derivatives + Deribit integration), set to be implemented in the coming months; Coinbase One Card upgrade—users can stake 500-5000 USDC as collateral and achieve travel spending with 5% Bitcoin cashback through the Travel Portal in collaboration with Booking Holdings/Agoda; lending of staked assets has been expanded to include cbETH (with a higher limit), JitoSOL (limit of $100,000), and new liquidation protection mechanisms have been introduced.
Additionally, the Base ecosystem is advancing simultaneously: B20 serves as the Base native token standard, supporting any asset; the Base App has launched a web version and enhanced multi-chain support with all asset coverage; enterprise-level private trading and privacy ledger have been launched, allowing institutions to achieve instant settlement without disclosing activities on the chain, applicable to B2B payments, private compensation, and other scenarios.
Crypto-supported mortgage loans have also been highlighted in this update as an important practical case for the real-world utility of crypto assets.
The new Coinbase Developer Platform and full-stack payment solution (USDC, Base native, API driven) have been launched in sync, supporting stablecoin payments and agent economy scenarios; transfer protection features have been enhanced with withdrawal delays, customizable daily limits, and multi-party approval mechanisms to improve the security of substantial assets.
The core logic of this Coinbase update is clear: a deepening of the Everything Exchange strategy. Users no longer need to choose between traditional brokers and crypto platforms, but can achieve comprehensive coverage of trading, investing, spending, lending, earning, and growth via a single account.
Specific thinking is reflected in three main lines: balancing regulatory dividends with global consistency. The CFTC's approval for U.S. users to trade regulated crypto derivatives clears obstacles for products like crypto derivatives to return to the U.S. market; at the same time, the principle of "default global provision" is adhered to, with international liquidity benefiting U.S. users. The "reverse export" of crypto innovation. Native support capabilities such as perpetual contract mechanics, instant on-chain trading channels, agent wallets, and the x402 payment protocol are systematically applied to equity indices, pre-IPO, prediction markets, and real assets.
Deep integration of AI and Agentic Economy. From Coinbase Advisor to Coinbase for Agents + Base MCP + x402 (execution layer, full user control), Coinbase is building a closed loop from insight to action, while controlling risk through isolated accounts and permission boundaries.
Exchanges like Binance, OKX, and Bitget are also aggressively laying out similar products. Binance quickly accumulated considerable trading volume on SpaceX pre-IPO perpetual contracts and integrated on-chain prediction markets; OKX launched Agent Trade Kit and Exchange OS, supporting AI agent automated trading and outcome markets; Bitget Stocks 2.0 has driven tokenized spot trading volume to exceed $1 billion.
Major offshore trading platforms are accelerating the seamless penetration of liquidity in the digitalization of traditional financial assets (TradFi) and AI intelligent trading tracks.

However, Coinbase's strategic thinking focuses more on systematic integration: relying on its SEC-registered investment advisor qualifications and CFTC derivatives admissions, it constructs "Everything Exchange" and primary financial accounts for users with 1:1 real equity-backed tokenized stocks, agent-controlled execution with isolated permissions, and crypto assets directly connected with Fannie Mae compliant mortgages, rather than merely following specific products.
In the short term, these updates are expected to increase user retention time, trading frequency, and AUM for the Coinbase App, especially attractive to active traders and Coinbase One members. The implementation of the modular Advanced platform and unified liquidity pool will further consolidate its position among institutions and high net worth users. The Base Launches channel and agent tools may accelerate the discovery and adoption of on-chain assets, forming a positive flywheel.
In the medium to long term, Coinbase is attempting to define the next generation of financial infrastructure: using crypto as the settlement and ownership layer, AI as the intelligent hub, and compliance and user control as boundaries.
