Emory University, a private research university located in Georgia, USA, has further increased its bullish bet on Bitcoin by increasing its holdings in Grayscale Investment's Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF).

According to a quarterly 13F report submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday, Emory University has raised its position in the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF to over 1 million shares, with a market value of $51.8 million.

Since the second quarter of this year, the university has nearly doubled its holdings in the Bitcoin ETF, purchasing an additional 487,636 shares valued at approximately $25 million.

In October 2024, Emory became one of the first U.S. universities to disclose its holdings in a Bitcoin ETF, initially revealing a $15 million position in the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF.

Launched in July 2024, the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF (trading code BTC) is a derivative product based on the original Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF (GBTC), which began trading in January 2024.

The original GBTC ETF charges an annual management fee of 1.5%, while the Mini Trust ETF is positioned as the "lowest-cost spot Bitcoin fund," with fees of only 0.15%. The fund was initiated through an initial seed round, allocating 10% of the underlying Bitcoin from GBTC to the new product.

In addition to the nearly $52 million in the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF, Emory University also holds 4,450 shares of BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin ETF (IBIT), with a total value of approximately $290,000. The university disclosed its investment in IBIT in the second quarter and has not made any adjustments since.

According to data released by CoinShares in January this year, Grayscale's various Bitcoin ETFs experienced the largest outflow of funds in the industry during 2024, totaling over $21.3 billion.

On the other hand, BlackRock's iShares series of Bitcoin ETFs contributed at least 80% of the overall net inflow of funds last year, estimated at $48.7 billion.

As of 2025, according to the latest data update from CoinShares, Grayscale's various Bitcoin ETFs have seen cumulative outflows of $2.5 billion, while the iShares series has attracted a net inflow of $37.4 billion.
