Japan's largest corporate Bitcoin reserve institution, Metaplanet, announced on June 26 that the company has purchased an additional 1,234 Bitcoins, bringing its total holdings to 12,345 BTC.

According to the announcement, this latest acquisition has pushed Metaplanet's holdings above Tesla's current reserve of 11,509 Bitcoins.

Data from BitcoinTreasuries.NET shows that Metaplanet is currently the seventh largest corporate holder of Bitcoin reserves. The company is also close to catching up with Bitcoin mining company CleanSpark, which has a reserve of 12,502 Bitcoins.

The average purchase price was 15.6 million yen (approximately $108,000) per Bitcoin. At the time of writing, according to CoinMarketCap, the trading price of Bitcoin is $108,150, having risen 1.4% in the past 24 hours.

Metaplanet has rapidly increased its scale of Bitcoin purchases. This announcement follows a notice released by the company on Tuesday, informing investors that its board has approved an additional capital investment of up to $5 billion.

The company did not disclose how much funding has been raised so far but stated that this investment will "significantly accelerate" the implementation of its so-called "5.55 billion plan."

As part of its 5.55 billion plan, Metaplanet aims to purchase 201,112 Bitcoins by 2027, with a projected cost exceeding $21 billion at current prices. The company had previously announced plans to hold 100,000 Bitcoins by 2026.

Metaplanet joins a growing list of companies expanding their Bitcoin holdings. Bitcoin holding company Nakamoto Holdings recently secured $51.5 million in funding to acquire more Bitcoins.

Last week, Parataxis Holdings announced the launch of a new Bitcoin reserve platform in the South Korean market. Similarly, this month, Norwegian crypto company K33 announced plans to raise at least 85 million Swedish kronor (approximately $8.9 million) through a new stock issuance, intending to acquire up to 1,000 Bitcoins.

At the beginning of June, the Norwegian crypto exchange Block Exchange announced its Bitcoin reserve plan. On that day, the company's stock price surged over 138%.

French tech company The Blockchain Group has also expanded its holdings, acquiring 182 Bitcoins for approximately $19.6 million. According to BitcoinTreasuries.NET, the company currently holds a total of 1,728 Bitcoins.
