Ondo Finance has been very active recently, first announcing the new tokenization framework for Ondo Global Markets, and then making a significant announcement at its inaugural Ondo Summit — the L1 blockchain for institutional-grade RWA, "Ondo Chain."

When mentioning Ondo Chain, one cannot overlook its close connection with the new tokenization framework for Ondo Global Markets unveiled by Ondo Finance two days ago. This framework aims to enable issuers to create RWA tokens that can be freely transferred like stablecoins, leading the financial market towards a more open economic model.

Specifically, Ondo Global Markets (referred to as Ondo GM) is a tokenization platform dedicated to providing global investors with on-chain access to U.S. listed securities using blockchain technology. The platform will launch a series of tokenized assets based on securities, which will be paired 1:1 with underlying assets (including stocks, bonds, ETFs, etc.) and can be freely transferred outside the U.S.

Ondo Global Markets will break geographical barriers, allowing global investors to access over a thousand securities listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NASDAQ 24/7/365, covering equities, fixed income ETFs, and stocks of companies like Apple, Tesla, and Uber. Additionally, the platform supports instant minting, redemption, transfer, purchase, and sale of tokenized assets, seamlessly integrating these assets into the DeFi space, such as lending, yield farming, and derivatives, forming a DeFi Lego for RWA.

Ondo Chain is the support and infrastructure for Ondo Global Markets.

What is Ondo Chain? What are its Features?

According to the official description of Ondo Chain, it promotes the large-scale use of tokenized real-world assets by combining the openness of public blockchains with the compliance and security features of permissioned chains.

The design advisors for Ondo Chain include new members of the Ondo ecosystem, such as Franklin Templeton, Wellington Management, WisdomTree, Google Cloud, ABN Amro, Aon, and McKinsey.

On Ondo Chain, validators must be permissioned, enhancing compliance and investor protection. However, the rest of the chain remains open, allowing anyone the right to issue tokens and develop applications. This design ensures compliance while stimulating innovative vitality.

The core highlight of Ondo Chain is its native support for RWA assets, particularly the tokens issued by Ondo GM. Ondo Chain plans to support staking of Ondo GM tokens and other high-quality liquid assets, providing security for the network while creating yield opportunities for idle assets.

In connecting with Tradfi, Ondo Chain achieves seamless integration with private networks and traditional financial environments by allowing a select group of financial institutions to operate some validation nodes. This design can reduce transaction latency, prevent front-running, and provide institutions with access to their unique assets and liquidity, further enhancing Ondo Chain's appeal and practicality in institutional applications.

On the data level, Ondo Chain has a built-in oracle mechanism that allows validation nodes to directly publish off-chain data (such as asset prices, interest rates, market indices, etc.), ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of on-chain data while reducing the risk of data manipulation and errors.

Additionally, Ondo Chain achieves full-chain messaging and cross-chain asset transfer through the native integration of Ondo Bridge. Its decentralized validation network (DVN) provides the primary security assurance for the system and can further enhance protection through additional DVN for high transaction amounts. More importantly, Ondo Chain supports seamless sharing of data such as KYC status, sanction lists, and collateral amounts, simplifying the process for developers to create full-chain applications.

Summary

Ondo Chain is attracting participation from traditional financial institutions through a RWA-specific permissioned chain, providing compliance and trust while preventing front-running and enhancing investor protection, thus seamlessly connecting traditional financial liquidity.
