Another luxurious VC lineup, with the backing of Coinbase, Paradigm, and Polychain, has given birth to a new AI+Crypto project—Vana. In simple terms, Vana aims to tokenize user private data, building a network for the allocation and incentive of user data ownership, control, and future economic rights, which can solve the problem of insufficient data during the training process of AI large models.

The development of AI mainly revolves around the three major aspects of "computing power," "algorithms," and "data." In the computing power direction, there are io and Aethir, while in the algorithm direction, there are Bittensor and SaharaAI. Vana is targeting the "data" direction, which is considered as the fuel for AI.

With the support of a vast "data source," AI can engage in multimodal learning, continuous learning, self-supervised learning, etc., to enhance the application scenarios and usage range of AI large models.

At the current stage, AI large model training faces many challenges such as privacy and uneven data sources. There is an oversupply of general text-based network data, while high-quality data in specific fields (such as medical and legal) and real-time updating data sources (such as news and technology) are severely scarce. How can we break the traditional industry data silos, reduce data labeling costs, and effectively solve complex privacy issues?

After a preliminary review of Vana's technical documentation, it appears that they are attempting to build:

1) A Data Liquidity layer, which can be used flexibly in the Vana network, similar to using tokens in the DeFi system;

2) A Data Portability layer, which essentially builds an ecosystem where data providers, developers, and platforms can collaborate to enhance the orderly circulation of data. This allows developers to directly utilize data through tool interfaces and also records and incentivizes high-quality data contributions, and more;

3) A "Connectome" data neural network system, which constructs a distributed ledger that can record real-time data transactions in the ecosystem, along with a POS consensus mechanism to ensure the normal operation of the DLP liquidity layer. It can also be compatible with external EVM environments. This is the core of how Vana's mainnet launch can effectively solve the AI data problem, as it transforms "data" into quantifiable value and traceable liquidity.
