This article will help you make the most of the Farcaster platform to ensure you have the best chance of participating in future airdrops.
Farcaster is a recently raised $150 million decentralized social network for the SoFi project. While projects like Lens Protocol have been around longer, Farcaster has quickly gained the most attention by integrating popular DApps such as Layer3 and Zora. Every airdrop hunter must establish a social presence on Farcaster. Here is a step-by-step guide to navigating this platform:
1. Create a Warpcast account
Warpcast is the most popular client using the Farcaster infrastructure. Other clients also use Farcaster, but this article will focus on the most famous, Warpcast.
The most annoying part of creating a Warpcast account is the inability to pay the $5/year fee with cryptocurrency. Account creation can only be done through iOS/Android, and the $5/year fee can only be purchased in the app using fiat currency. This goes against the decentralized concept. After entering your email address, you will receive a brand new mnemonic phrase.
This is separate from the wallet's mnemonic phrase and needs to be stored securely.
- ### Link your airdrop wallet to Warpcast
This is an important step to ensure that your on-chain activities qualify for future airdrops. For example, the airdrop from @Spectral_Labs rewarded Warpcast users active on Base. Both of my wallets (Warpcast + airdrop) are on this eligibility list (but I did not qualify for this airdrop).
Therefore, I strongly recommend linking your airdrop wallet to Warpcast to ensure your Farcaster activity is considered for future airdrops. I shared a quick guide on how to do this.
- ### Link your Layer3 account to Warpcast
You need a Warpcast account to complete certain Layer3 tasks. However, linking Warpcast to your Layer3 account is slightly more complex. After clicking Farcaster link, you must complete a Layer3 task on Warpcast to link the accounts. But this may vary from person to person.
- ### Stay active on Warpcast
Spectral's airdrop rewards Farcaster accounts with at least:
❍ 10 followers
❍ 10 likes
❍ 10 posts
Therefore, an active Warpcast account may qualify you for future airdrops. However, Warpcast's algorithm is different from Twitter. If you post on the homepage (default), you are just sharing with followers.
There are almost no people at the beginning, so if you want more likes and followers, the best way is to post in channels. Channels are similar to Twitter's community feature, where anyone can create and join channels. The best way to get likes and followers is to post in channels with more followers, such as:

❍ /ethereum
❍ /farcaster
To create a channel, you need to spend in-app currency (Warps), which I will explain in detail later:
- ### Purchase and use Warps
Warps are necessary for certain on-chain operations, including:
❍ Gifting Warps to other users' posts (similar to tipping)
❍ Linking Warpcast accounts to other apps
❍ Posting in certain channels
❍ Creating your own channel
❍ Minting NFTs
You can purchase Warps at a rate of 500 Warps for $5 worth of ETH.
The good news is that this can be paid with cryptocurrency. Creating a channel requires 2500 Warps per year ($25). I believe creating and managing channels could be a multiplier for Farcaster airdrops. Some channels require payment of 10 Warps per post, which goes to the channel owner. Warpcast mentions in the FAQ that accumulating Warps has no benefit, so it's best to spend the Warps you have. Warps can only be used in the Warpcast client and cannot be transferred to other clients.
- ### Interactive Frames
Frames are the latest feature of Farcaster that can turn any cast into an interactive app.
I found most of them to be quite laggy, especially when completing Layer3 tasks through them (some tasks take time to verify). But whenever possible, I try to interact with any Frames I see on Farcaster. This could also be a criterion for future airdrops. You can create a Frame using Fileverse here.
- ### Obtain a Power Badge
The Power Badge specifically rewards active Warpcast users, and I am working hard to get one. Although the algorithm is not public. Warpcast hints at the criteria for awarding:
❍ Activity (frequency of posting)
❍ Affinity (whether power users like your posts)
❍ Flagging (if your posts are flagged as spam)
I messaged someone with a Power Badge, and they mentioned that they got the badge through "consciously trying to get reactions from OGs with Power Badge." Therefore, I suggest interacting with Power Badge users. But avoid spamming and try to comment creatively, as this increases your chances of getting their likes and increases your chances of getting a Power Badge.
All of this may seem cumbersome, but this is where we have an advantage over those who are too lazy to create accounts.
