Cryptocurrency exchange Binance said it played a key role in the dismantling of the global pedophile platform Kidflix in March. According to Binance, its investigations team provided German authorities with analysis and operational intelligence that helped trace Kidflix’s cryptocurrency-based payment infrastructure.
In the report lauding the crypto exchange’s role in the takedown, Binance said the case once again undermined the notion that crypto payments are anonymous. It also implied that Kidflix operators were under the same impression. However, they discovered this was not true in the worst possible way after law enforcement used blockchain forensics tools like Chainalysis to expose the platform.
According to a Binance spokesperson, blockchain analysis’ role in helping German authorities bring down what had become one of the largest pedophile platforms in the world shows that digital asset companies can be useful partners in combating crypto-related crime.
“This case underscores how cryptocurrency can become a powerful tool not only for innovation but also for justice. We remain committed to working alongside law enforcement agencies worldwide to ensure that bad actors have nowhere to hide,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson’s remarks came nearly two months after German law enforcement, supported by the European Police, shut down Kidflix. During the raid code-named Operation Stream, law enforcement agents seized 91,000 CSAM videos and over 3,000 electronic devices, while 39 child victims were rescued.
Meanwhile, Binance said its support led to the identification and linking of over 120 Kidflix users to illicit transactions recorded on the blockchain.
