[Hong Kong Establishes Task Force to Provide Inquiry and Technical Support for Crypto Asset Reporting and Tax Registration] According to Odaily Planet Daily, Hong Kong's Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Chan Ho-lim, to align with the global trend of strengthening tax regulation of digital assets and combating cross-border tax evasion, crypto asset reporting will be implemented in Hong Kong starting in 2027. This generally includes cryptocurrencies commonly found in the global market such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. To ensure the effective implementation of the crypto asset reporting framework, a series of arrangements will be implemented, including mandatory registration of crypto asset reporting service providers with reporting ties to Hong Kong with the tax authorities, and requirements for relevant service providers to maintain due diligence records. A task force has been established to provide technical support and answer inquiries for the industry. It is understood that the crypto industry is focused on at least two key aspects: first, the areas covered by the tax authorities' guidelines, particularly whether the scope of "covered service providers" will extend to custody, brokerage, and over-the-counter trading; and second, the list of the first batch of exchange partners, which is considered to directly determine which countries' tax authorities will be able to access transaction data on Hong Kong platforms after 2028.
