According to Reuters, North Korea has established a long-term, state-level hacker training system, selecting approximately 150 to 200 students aged 11 to 12 each year to study computer technology. The top performers enter top universities, and a minority eventually join the military's cyberattack department, receiving specialized training in areas such as cryptocurrency protocols and reverse engineering of foreign hardware.
According to a former North Korean hacker trainer, the military unit that successfully carries out a cyberattack can receive up to 30% of the stolen proceeds. Outstanding performers may also receive housing in Pyongyang, foreign exchange rewards, and eligibility to join the Workers' Party.
