AI model aggregation platform OpenRouter stated in a post on October 14, Beijing time, that Anthropic's new model, Opus 5.5, has become the model with the highest spending share on the platform, propelling Anthropic to regain its lead over OpenAI in the competition. Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 also showed strong performance during their initial launch period. Data indicates that in mid-September, OpenAI briefly accounted for over half of the combined spending between the two companies for the first time in more than two years, primarily driven by the new model GPT-6 Astra. However, Anthropic had long maintained a share of approximately 75% to 80% between 2024 and 2025. The launch of Opus 5.5 during the week of September 21 reversed the situation: OpenRouter charts show that as of the week ending October 12, Anthropic had regained about 66% of the combined spending between the two companies, with the Opus 5.5 model alone accounting for approximately 27%, and token usage share rebounding to around 47%. However, the pricing of Opus 5.5 is double that of Sonnet 5.5, and the spending lead to some extent reflects the price difference.
