On Thursday, the European Securities and Markets Authority issued an opinion requiring EU-authorized crypto asset service providers to delist stablecoins that do not comply with the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, with a three-month deadline to clear existing holdings. National regulators must ensure that customer positions are cleared as soon as possible, with a final deadline of January 8, 2027. During the clearance period, only selling, exchanging, withdrawing, transferring, or custody is allowed—buying or promoting is prohibited. USDT is the most prominent example of an unauthorized asset.
