๐จ SHOCKING: ๐ฎ๐น Italian bank Fideuram transferred $108 million after being tricked by an AI voice impersonation call.
Hereโs how it happened ๐
Fideuram Chairman Paolo Molesini received a WhatsApp message appearing to be from Intesa Sanpaolo CEO Carlo Messina.
The message asked him to urgently arrange overseas transfers for a financial operation.
Molesini then received a phone call from someone who appeared to be lawyer Paolo Nastasi.
The voice was actually AI-cloned, making the caller sound like the real lawyer.
Believing the requests were genuine, Molesini instructed Fideuram to transfer around โฌ95 million ($108 million), mainly to accounts in China and Hong Kong.
Fideuram and authorities recovered a large portion of the money through international cooperation.
Around โฌ36 million was converted into crypto and remains unaccounted for, with investigators tracing the funds.
Molesini later resigned as Fideuram chairman in March, citing personal reasons. He is not under investigation.
