[JPMorgan Takes a Contrarian Bullish Stance on U.S. Stocks: Embrace the 'Golden Dip']
Odaily Planet Daily News – U.S. stocks plunged across the board on Monday, battered by calls from AI giants to slow down, sticky inflation, and the specter of interest rate hikes. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index tumbled nearly 6%. However, JPMorgan Chase reiterated its contrarian bullish stance, warning that blind pessimism could lead to missed opportunities.
Mislav Matejka, JPMorgan's Global and European Equity Strategy Head, once again cautioned aggressive short-sellers: while surging oil prices do weigh on valuations, it is extremely dangerous to blindly short U.S. stocks as long as the overall expansion in U.S. corporate earnings remains unrefuted. Should U.S. President Trump later attempt to de-escalate Middle East tensions on the diplomatic front, or if Q3 earnings reports exceed expectations, overly aggressive short positions could face a fierce counterattack from rebound capital.
In light of this, JPMorgan had already raised its year-end target for the S&P 500 Index from 7,800 points to 8,000 points as early as August, and it expects the index's constituent companies to see earnings per share surge 29% year-over-year to $350.
