OpenAI reports user used ChatGPT to plan murder of ex girlfriend to FBI, former Goldman Sachs analyst pleads guilty and receives probation OpenAI reported 25-year-old Florida man Darren Zhou to the FBI in May this year for detailing his plans to rape and murder his ex girlfriend on ChatGPT. Zhou was a former analyst at Goldman Sachs and has been fired. According to court records, Zhou repeatedly confided in ChatGPT about his breakup emotions between March and May, which escalated into violent threats. He told AI, 'I'm going to kill her at the end of this month, and if I don't get her, no one can get her.'. " He plans to hold a gun and wait in the parking lot of his ex girlfriend's gym. If she refuses the flowers he gave her, he will shoot her and then commit suicide. He also claimed to have purchased AR-15 rifles, Glock pistols, and a No. 12 shotgun, and sent photos of the firearms, straps, and latex gloves to his ex girlfriend. The FBI has handed over two months of chat records (including only Zhou's messages and not ChatGPT replies) to the police. The victim is a 21-year-old woman. After the breakup, Zhou continued to harass her through various app numbers, sending threats and pornographic messages. Zhou was arrested in May and pleaded guilty on August 13th. The judge sentenced him to 8 years of probation, with the first two years requiring him to wear an electronic ankle bracelet, undergo a mental health assessment, and be prohibited from dealing with drugs, alcohol, firearms, and his ex girlfriend, avoiding a maximum of 25 years in prison and a felony record.
