We can trace all of this back to World War 2. The reason your salary buys less, the reason your kids can't afford a house, the reason retirement keeps drifting out of reach comes back to one thing. Demographics. The baby boomers were the biggest generational cohort in human history, and their spending and saving habits shaped asset prices, interest rates, and policy decisions for years. Now they're retiring in numbers no economy was built to absorb. With a shrinking workforce GDP growth stalls. Governments borrow more to fund what they owe, and print more money to foot the bill… Which means the retirement you spent decades saving for is worth less each year. This is the crux of my Everything Code framework: Demographics drive debt, debt drives currency debasement, and your retirement gets eaten alive.(Raoul Pal)
