When donations came in from our diaspora and other supporters after Hurricane Melissa, we made an early decision that these contributions would be used for tangible projects that directly improve the lives of Jamaicans.
On Friday, I saw that vision coming to life with the installation of a container home, including the necessary infrastructure such as the walkway, platform, water connections, sewage system and safety rails to make the space fully functional.
As we continue to deploy approximately 2,000 container homes across affected communities, we recognize that there are additional costs involved beyond the containers themselves. Preparing the site, building platforms, installing utilities, transporting the units and placing them safely requires significant work and resources.
I was deeply moved by the gratitude expressed by the family who received this home. They shared their appreciation to everyone who donated and supported this effort, and I want to thank them for allowing us to be part of this important moment.(Andrew Holness)
