[Brazil's Crypto Asset Purchases Reach $14.68 Billion in H1 2026]
According to a report by (Bitcoin.com), the Central Bank of Brazil revealed that the country's crypto asset purchases reached $14.68 billion in the first half of 2026, marking a 135% increase compared to $6.24 billion during the same period in 2025. Stablecoin demand accounted for over 90%, with stablecoin purchases in May 2026 reaching $2.632 billion, a year-on-year growth of 158%. Fernando Rocha, head of the Central Bank of Brazil's statistics department, stated that Brazil's crypto market is moving toward maturity and consolidation. The Central Bank of Brazil has classified Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) as a third category of institutions, with the new regulatory framework set to take effect in January 2027. A government proposal to impose a 3.5% tax on stablecoin transactions has been shelved.
