[Meta and BlackRock Collaborate to Build a $14 Billion Data Center]
According to Reuters, Meta Platforms (META.O) and BlackRock have announced a joint investment and ownership of a data center campus located in El Paso, Texas. The campus, currently under construction, will feature 1 gigawatt of computing capacity. Meta will provide construction management, administrative management, and property management for the campus and will become its first and sole user upon completion. The transaction is expected to be finalized in the coming days, with the project slated to begin operations in 2028.
The El Paso data center is part of Meta's investment exceeding $10 billion. Once completed, it will support over 4,000 construction jobs at peak and 300 operational positions. Currently, more than 2,300 workers are already on-site. Funds managed by BlackRock will hold an 80% stake in the joint venture, while Meta will retain the remaining 20%.
