Chalk exposes 56 million yuan investment loss, with stock price plummeting nearly 17% to a new low
Chalk Group released its interim performance forecast, stating that it lost approximately $8.3 million (approximately RMB 56.15 million) on the sale of previously purchased ETFs and listed securities from July 1st to 7th.
As of the close of last Friday, the account still holds securities of three public companies with a total value of approximately $8.5 million. The board of directors has stated that they will continue to monitor the performance of this investment. As soon as the news came out, the stock price of Chalk plummeted nearly 17% today, hitting a historic low.
On June 3rd, Chalk CEO Zhang Xiaolong announced in a lecture at Renmin University of China that he had used 80 million yuan in cash to enter the market last month and earned 53 million yuan in a month. He also advised students to "preferably invest in technology stocks and better in US stocks". However, due to the lukewarm response from the audience, he used foul language and left the market.
At the beginning of the month, Zhang Xiaolong resigned from his positions as Executive Director, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chalk.
