[Leverage Debt Rises to $1.53 Trillion, U.S. Investors Chasing Highs with Leverage]
Odaily Planet Daily News: Crypto KOL Phyrex posted on platform X, stating that U.S. investors are chasing stock market highs with increasing leverage. As of June, the net credit balance of U.S. brokerage accounts dropped by approximately $70 billion in a single month, falling to negative $1.061 trillion, a record low. During the same period, margin debt increased by about $86 billion to $1.53 trillion, marking the third consecutive monthly rise and setting a new record.
Phyrex pointed out that the continued deterioration of the net credit balance indicates a reduction in investors' cash buffers and an increased reliance on borrowing for stock positions. Currently, leverage is widespread across the entire U.S. brokerage system. During an upward phase, rising stock prices boost account net values, which can further release margin capacity, creating mechanical buying pressure. However, if the market weakens, margin calls may force investors to add cash or sell stocks, turning the leverage that previously drove the rally into mechanical selling pressure.
Phyrex believes that the U.S. stock market is currently facing both high valuations and a high-leverage environment. If the influx of new funds slows, leveraged positions could further amplify market volatility.
