[South Korea's Single Stock Leveraged ETF Daily Trading Volume Falls Below 10 Trillion Won as New Regulations Take Effect]
Odaily Planet Daily News: According to data from the South Korean Exchange, the combined trading volume of 16 single-stock leveraged and inverse ETFs based on Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix fell below the 10 trillion won threshold on Monday (July 27), dropping to 7.46 trillion won. This represents a 27% decrease compared to the previous trading day and a decline of over 30% compared to the average daily trading volume of the previous week. The proportion of these ETFs in the total trading volume of South Korea's ETF market also fell to 36.9%. Among them, SK Hynix-related products continued to dominate, accounting for approximately 70% of the total trading volume of single-stock leveraged and inverse ETFs. Market analysts believe the cooling in trading activity is primarily influenced by South Korea's new financial regulatory measures. Starting July 31, individual investors in South Korea will be required to hold a minimum cash margin of 30 million won when purchasing or increasing positions in single-stock leveraged ETFs/ETNs. Additionally, regulatory authorities plan to raise the minimum trading unit to further curb high-frequency short-term trading. (Duam)
