Smart friends, many of you who join the discussions are more focused on 'participating.' But if you actually get involved yourself, you'll notice that the funding rate difference between Binance's $BZUSDT and $CLUSDT is currently more than double. Especially in the past two weeks with oil prices rising, I’ve noticed that $CLUSDT has had a negative funding rate ever since it hit $75, which makes shorting it quite painful. On the other hand, $BZUSDT has mostly stayed at 0, even when most users are shorting it, and still offers a lower funding rate. The main reason is that many people only know $CLUSDT represents oil but don’t realize $BZUSDT is also oil. The former is WTI, which I often refer to as U.S. oil, while the latter is Brent, also known as international crude oil. Personally, I like to call it UK oil. I’ve written tweets before about shorting Brent. The main point is that under normal circumstances, the price difference between Brent and WTI should be around $3-$5. Once this gap widens, shorting Brent becomes more profitable. During this recent oil price surge, Brent was once priced over $8 higher than WTI. In such cases, shorting Brent is bound to yield better returns. For those interested, take a look at Friday’s closing prices: Brent closed at $98.69, while WTI was at $90.46. At times like this, shorting not only benefits from the drop in oil prices but also captures Brent’s emotional premium (around $2-$3) caused by the Hormuz Strait blockade. Unfortunately, due to parameter differences, there’s a price gap between $BZUSDT and Brent. After I chased $BZUSDT at $95, my $100 order didn’t get filled. On that day, Brent’s highest price was $102, while $BZUSDT only reached $95.46. So @rebelwanderwest is absolutely right—$BZUSDT has a lower funding rate and is better suited for shorting. However, in terms of liquidity, depth, and trading volume, $CLUSDT is better. Personally, I think it’s mainly because fewer people know about $BZUSDT. My personal trading strategy is: when the price gap is high, I short $BZUSDT; when the gap is low, I short $CLUSDT. During price increases, I short $CLUSDT to earn funding rates, and during price drops, I short $BZUSDT to save on costs. That’s all.
