However, negotiations ultimately failed to wrap up before the recess. The main sticking point remains the ethics provisions. The controversy surrounding the Trump family's profits from crypto projects is the major obstacle. The Trump family reportedly made over $2 billion from meme coins and other crypto trades, prompting Democrats to demand strict ethics clauses in the bill to prevent government officials from profiting off crypto assets. While Republicans have softened their stance and submitted a revised draft, Democrats argue the provisions still have glaring loopholes and fail to effectively constrain the Trump family. Polymarket's probability for passage has dropped to around 37%, far below the springtime peak of over 80%. Wintermute's policy director Ron Hammond commented that while there may still be enough votes to support the bill, “the voice of election politics is louder,” suggesting the real window might come after the midterm elections.
