[Mitsubishi UFJ: Iran War Limits Japan's Ability to Support the Yen]
According to a report by Golden Finance on July 24, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank analyst Derek Halpenny stated in a report that due to the U.S.-Iran conflict, Japan may find it difficult to curb the depreciation of the yen against the dollar. U.S. President Trump indicated on Thursday that he is about to decide whether to launch an unprecedented large-scale attack on Iran. Halpenny noted that a large-scale attack that further drives up oil prices could increase market expectations for a Federal Reserve interest rate hike. This situation would ensure that Japan remains constrained in its efforts to curb further increases in the USD/JPY exchange rate.
