I thought SpaceX's launch would end the hype around space concepts!
I underestimated it too much. Today's massive acquisition in the space industry may break this short-term pattern. I am planning to buy RKLB back at an appropriate time in the near future!
Today, space concept stock Rocket Lab (RKLB) acquired Iridium Communications for $8 billion, using $54 per share in cash and stock. We will truly achieve the integration of "launch+satellite communication" and make up for the shortcomings of the past "only sending without operation", which will bring new revenue growth points to RKLB!
Previously, Rocket Lab only had strong launch capabilities, and satellite manufacturing was still climbing the slope. Iridium is the world's leading L-band LEO satellite network operator, with over 2.55 million active users, specializing in key services such as voice, data, positioning, and navigation. The strong alliance between the two is equivalent to it not only being a launch company in the future, but also controlling the entire satellite ecosystem.
Although it is similar to SpaceX's model, Rocket Lab focuses more on communication satellites and IoT services. The Starlink of SpaceX is mainly broadband Internet, and there are some differences between the two.
RKLB now has access to Iridium's global spectrum resources and a strong industry customer network, with more "professional level" military, maritime, and national security application barriers. The cross-border integration of ecology and service capabilities will also have greater imagination space!
