[Telegram Responds to India's Ban: One-Week Ban Affects 150 Million Users]
Telegram founder Pavel Durov stated on his channel that India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology imposed a one-week ban on Telegram due to some users sharing leaked exam questions. Telegram believes this action has impacted approximately 150 million regular users in India but failed to truly punish the individuals responsible for the leaks or insiders. Telegram noted that the ban has not resolved the issue, as the related content has simply shifted to other application platforms. The company emphasized that although Telegram was not the source of the leaks, it has actively cooperated in addressing the issue over the past few weeks, removing hundreds of channels that shared leaked exam questions and related fraudulent content.
Additionally, Telegram mentioned that it has recently enhanced the visibility of the 'edited' label to prevent retrospective fraud scams involving modifications to timestamps and other details.
