[U.S. Trade Judge Urges Trump Administration to Expedite Tariff Refunds]
Jin10 News, June 10 – A U.S. trade judge on Tuesday urged Trump administration officials to expedite the refund of over $10 billion in tariff revenues. These tariffs, which had already been collected, were later ruled illegal by the Supreme Court, but the judge did not issue a new injunction requiring the government to comply.
Judge Richard Eaton of the U.S. Court of International Trade in Manhattan stated that delays in processing some refund applications are causing "increasingly severe inequities" between large importers and small businesses. Eaton noted that this inequity is an "unintended consequence" of the government’s design of the $166 billion illegal tariff refund system and said he does not believe the government is deliberately favoring large importers. However, he pointed out that the Trump administration’s appeal of his March 4 ruling, which ordered the government to refund all tariffs, is delaying the refund process.
