According to NPR, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) are investigating former U.S. Congressman George Santos for his trading activities on the prediction market platform Kalshi. In February of this year, Santos publicly stated that he would attend Trump’s State of the Union address, but insiders claim he simultaneously placed bets on Kalshi predicting he wouldn’t attend. He reportedly profited tens of thousands of dollars after ultimately skipping the event. The report states that Kalshi froze his account upon discovering the transactions and referred the case to the DOJ and CFTC. Santos has denied knowledge of the investigation and has not confirmed whether he owns a Kalshi account.
