[Georgia Implements Large-Scale Installation of Electricity Meters in Mestia to Combat Illegal Crypto Mining] According to Crypto Briefing, the Georgian government is conducting a large-scale installation of electricity meters in the Mestia region to combat illegal cryptocurrency mining. The country's Deputy Prime Minister announced on June 1 the launch of a comprehensive operation, focusing on Mestia city in the Svaneti region. The core measure involves the large-scale installation of electricity meters in all villages within the region, with enforcement supported by law enforcement agencies. In 2025, Mestia's electricity consumption reached 133 million kilowatt-hours, more than 13 times the electricity usage of other comparable towns in Georgia. The government estimates that illegal mining causes an annual loss of 20 to 25 million GEL to the national energy system.
