Vitalik: Ethereum Foundation to 'Downsize' and Reduce ETH Sales
Ethereum co-founder @VitalikButerin posted a long thread on the X platform, addressing the recent turbulence and wave of resignations at the Ethereum Foundation.
Buterin stated that the foundation is choosing 'longevity over being all-encompassing,' reducing ETH sales and focusing on Ethereum's CROPS attributes: censorship resistance, open source, privacy, and security. He emphasized that the post reflects his personal views and that his influence within the organization will continue to diminish, which aligns with his intentions. Buterin believes the EF should be seen as 'a purpose-driven node, standing alongside other nodes,' rather than the center of Ethereum.
Buterin pointed out that the foundation holds about 0.16% of ETH, whereas other blockchain foundations typically hold 10% to 50% of their token supply. The foundation will focus on critical activities that only it can drive, while some respected contributors and projects will operate outside the foundation, helping to attract external capital.
On the technical front, Buterin outlined three priorities: achieving 'provably bug-free Ethereum' through AI-assisted formal verification, rollup-centric consensus, and minimizing intermediaries. He explicitly opposed Ethereum competing solely on speed, calling it 'a path to mediocrity.'
Finally, Buterin stated that the EF will be smaller than in previous years, with a more defined stance. In some cases, its position may be difficult to understand, but it will also be more enduring. The foundation's new long-term operational model is expected to stabilize in the coming months.
