Vitalik: The Ethereum Foundation is not the central manager of the ETH ecosystem and will shift towards a "small and long-term" development path in the future According to Golden Finance, on May 25th, Vitalik, the founder of Ethereum, shared his views on the future development direction of the Ethereum Foundation on the X platform. Firstly, he emphasized that this is only his personal opinion. He is not the only one on the board of directors, and he does not have more special powers than other directors. Aya Miyaguchi is leading most of the execution work for this transformation, while his own involvement is more focused on technical issues. The board of directors is currently expanding, and his influence within the organization will continue to decline in the future. To be frank, this is exactly what he hopes to see. In 2025, the Ethereum Foundation has made significant improvements in its execution capabilities. Many issues have been resolved, and the Ethereum Foundation still benefits from higher efficiency and stronger focus on specific goals to this day. But as these issues were resolved earlier this year, he began to pay more attention to another question: he often saw people say, 'Vitalik has been talking about Ethereum being decentralized, having privacy, and becoming a safe haven technology, but why hasn't the Ethereum Foundation's actions reflected these ideas?'? ” Of course, there are also people who hold completely different views. Some people do not feel there is any crisis, but rather believe that the Ethereum Foundation has finally begun to take execution and business development seriously, and the focus should be on continuing to do faster and stronger along this path. Vitalik believes that this difference essentially reflects the varying sensitivity of different individuals to different types of criticism, and he himself is more susceptible to being stung by criticism about deviating from values. Vitalik stated that the Ethereum Foundation should not be the 'center of Ethereum', but rather a 'node with clear responsibilities, existing alongside other nodes'. In the past, they have always said this, but many people in the ecosystem, including some within the foundation, hope that the foundation will become the true center. Now, they are taking practical actions to ensure that the foundation becomes the latter. This is particularly important because the Ethereum Foundation is essentially an institution with limited resources and organizational capabilities. The foundation currently holds only about 0.16% of all ETH, even lower than many large ETH holders; And many other blockchain projects' 'central foundations' typically hold 10% -50% of the tokens. The Ethereum Foundation has decided to use its remaining resources to pursue "long-term viability" rather than constantly expanding (which also means they will sell less ETH). The foundation will focus on things that are crucial for Ethereum to become a system that is resistant to censorship, control, openness, privacy, and security, but that no one would do if the foundation did not. This means they must make difficult choices. Some projects that they highly recognize and highly respect may no longer belong to the foundation system in the future. In fact, if we hope that important tasks can attract external capital, it is necessary to keep some outstanding talents, people with public influence, and those who identify with the mission and CROPS philosophy outside the foundation. This also means that the Ethereum Foundation will adopt a clearer and more assertive stance at the cultural level
