[U.S. Defense Oversight Agency to Investigate U.S. Attacks on Ships in the Caribbean] According to a report by Jinse Finance, on May 19, the U.S. Department of Defense's internal oversight agency will investigate whether U.S. military strikes on ships in the Caribbean comply with target selection criteria, following claims by external groups that these attacks were illegal. The Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense stated that this investigation was self-initiated and not prompted by congressional inquiries. Assistant Inspector General Brian Clark wrote in a May 11 memorandum to U.S. Southern Command Commander General Joseph Donovan that the purpose of this evaluation is to determine whether the Pentagon adhered to the six-phase process known as the 'Joint Targeting Cycle.' Clark stated, 'We will conduct evaluations at the Pentagon and the Southern Command headquarters.'
