Federal Reserve Board Member Milan: Powell should only briefly remain on board after stepping down as chairman Odaily Planet Daily News: Federal Reserve Board member Milan said on Friday that he hopes current Federal Reserve Chairman Powell will only stay briefly as a board member after stepping down from his position as chairman. Milan said, "I think it's important to ensure that this is just a transitional phase, rather than some undisclosed purpose behind Powell's tenure as a board member." Powell said after last week's meeting that he will continue to serve as a Federal Reserve board member for a period of time after his term as chairman ends, with his term continuing until 2028. He said he hopes to observe whether the Trump administration's legal attacks on the Federal Reserve will stop. Although Powell's continued stay on the Federal Reserve Board may create a balance of power in support of maintaining the status quo as the Bush Plan pushes for Federal Reserve reform, Powell said last week, "I don't want to be a high-profile dissident or anything like that." Milan said, "It's important to ensure that this is a transitional phase, not to create loyalty divisions within the Fed," and to avoid "uncertainty about who is in charge." That's why I believe that while Powell's stay may help with the transition, we still need to ensure that this is just a transitional phase. (Golden Ten)
