[Brazil and Spain Demand Israel Release Two Detained Activists] According to Golden Finance, on May 2, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a joint statement with Spain, strongly condemning Israel's actions of detaining citizens of both countries in international waters, calling it an act of "kidnapping." The statement noted that the two individuals were aboard a vessel associated with the "Global Resilience Fleet" when they were intercepted by the Israeli military near Greek waters. Brazil and Spain demanded that Israel immediately release the two individuals, ensure their safe return, and allow them immediate access to consular assistance. It is reported that the detainees are Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila and Spanish-Palestinian activist Saif Abu Qashik. The Israeli side stated that the two would be taken to Israel for questioning, alleging that Abu Qashik is linked to terrorist organizations and Ávila is involved in illegal activities, though no evidence was provided. Reportedly, a total of 22 ships and 175 activists were intercepted by the Israeli navy during this operation. Previously, on April 30, Brazil, Turkey, Bangladesh, Colombia, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, the Maldives, Mauritania, Pakistan, South Africa, and Spain had issued a joint statement condemning Israel's actions against the "Global Resilience Fleet."
