[Iran: The Strait of Hormuz is Part of Iran's Sovereignty and Control Will Not Be Relinquished]
According to a report by Golden Finance on April 20, citing Iranian media Press TV, Ebrahim Azizi, former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, stated that Iran will never relinquish control over the Strait of Hormuz. He described this critical waterway as an inseparable part of Iran's national sovereignty, which will always remain under Iran's full jurisdiction.
When asked whether Tehran would give up control of the strait, Azizi responded, "Absolutely not. This is our inalienable right. Iran will determine passage rights, including granting permission for ships to transit the strait." He noted that this principle is being formalized through legislation.
The senior parliamentarian stated, "We are introducing a bill in parliament, based on Article 110 of the Constitution, which addresses environmental, maritime safety, and national security issues. The armed forces will enforce this law." Tehran now considers the ability to regulate maritime traffic through this waterway as crucial for restoring deterrence and maintaining long-term strategic leverage. (Jin10)
