[EasyDNS Admits Responsibility for eth.limo Domain Hijacking Incident, First Social Engineering Attack in the Company's 28-Year History]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on April 20, the ENS web gateway eth.limo released a post-incident analysis report on Saturday, indicating that the DNS hijacking incident on Friday night stemmed from a social engineering attack targeting the domain registrar EasyDNS.
The DNSSEC verification mechanism rejected the attackers' modifications to the name servers, and eth.limo stated that no impact on users has been detected so far. EasyDNS publicly acknowledged the security incident, stating that this was the first successful social engineering attack targeting a customer in the registrar's 28-year history.
Given the increasing number of cryptocurrency front-end projects being compromised at the DNS layer in recent months, eth.limo will migrate to a stricter EasyDNS-affiliated service provider that does not support account recovery functionality.
