[Hong Kong Woman Falls Victim to 'Crypto Investment Romance Scam,' Losing Over HK$5.5 Million in Two Months] According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on March 24, citing Sing Tao Daily, a 39-year-old Hong Kong woman met a man claiming to be an employee of a new energy company through a mobile dating app. They later transitioned to WhatsApp and developed an online romantic relationship. The man lured the victim into investing in cryptocurrency on a fraudulent trading platform under the pretense of high returns. Following the platform's customer service instructions, the victim transferred over HK$5.5 million in total to multiple unknown Faster Payment System (FPS) accounts over approximately two months. The scammer then disappeared, and the victim realized she had been defrauded. Last week, Hong Kong police received 15 reports of online romance scams, involving nearly HK$10 million in losses. Police have warned that such scams often use investments in precious metals and cryptocurrencies as bait.
