The fight between the U.S. and Iran has put Trump in a tough spot. According to the latest CBS poll, domestic support for this military action hasn’t improved as the conflict progresses—in fact, it’s weakening.
In early March, 44% supported it and 56% opposed it. Now, it’s down to 40% support and 60% opposition. Meanwhile, 57% of Americans believe this conflict is not going well for the U.S.
This shows that domestic skepticism has shifted from questioning whether to fight to whether it’s worth fighting like this. The CBS poll also mentioned that many Americans feel the government hasn’t clearly explained the goals of this conflict, and more people are starting to see it as a war of choice rather than a war of necessity.
The U.S. market is already factoring in how much longer the White House can endure the political fallout, especially with midterm elections this year.
