Jensen Huang: The true turning point for autonomous driving is here, AI is starting to 'think' During the keynote speech at CES 2026, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang sent a clear signal: autonomous driving is entering a brand-new phase. NVIDIA officially unveiled Alpamayo, an end-to-end trained autonomous driving AI system. The core breakthrough isn’t just about 'driving more steadily,' but about 'starting to think.' Unlike traditional autonomous driving systems, Alpamayo doesn’t just process sensor data and control the steering wheel, brakes, and acceleration. It can reason before taking action, clearly explaining what it’s going to do next, why it’s doing it, and the corresponding driving trajectory. This means autonomous driving is moving from black-box execution to a new stage of explainable decision-making. Alpamayo is trained using a massive amount of real driving data, human demonstration driving, and synthetic data generated by Cosmos. This launch marks a critical turning point for autonomous driving technology, transitioning from 'perception and control' to 'thinking and decision-making.'
