[Willy Woo: Usage of Taproot-type addresses dropped from 42% to 20% since 2024, possibly due to quantum security concerns]
On-chain analyst Willy Woo, citing Glassnode data, pointed out that the proportion of Bitcoin transactions using Taproot output types has significantly declined from a 2024 peak of 42% to the current level of approximately 20%. Woo stated that this is the first time the latest output format has been observed 'losing adoption' among users, suspecting the main reason might be Taproot's higher exposure to quantum computing risks, whereas older SegWit and Legacy formats are relatively less susceptible to quantum attacks.
Last month, Willy Woo suggested that Bitcoin should guard against quantum computing threats and recommended migrating to SegWit addresses as a precaution.
