At first, I thought I had encountered another scammer, but they actually reminded me to retrieve a lost Crypto asset.
one ️⃣ Strange DM and emails
Since last month, I have been receiving Twitter DM and emails from a stranger. He repeatedly reminded me that I had an unclaimed asset and said that as long as I gave him 25%, he would tell me which agreement it specifically involved.
I have received similar emails and messages countless times, and each time they are treated as phishing emails and ignored directly. But this person is particularly persistent and will remind them every few days. What's even stranger is that the emails he sent had a lot of spelling errors in English, which made me wonder if he didn't even know how to use LLM.
two ️⃣ Curiosity drives investigation
The email was written in a very chaotic manner. It seems that his native language is not English, but he is still using English and the content is unclear. But given his persistence, I couldn't help but be curious and tried to ask GPT-5 to help me analyze the email content, understand the other party's true motives and specific meanings.
After parsing GPT-5, it prompted me that this person was actually informing me that there is an asset in the Euler protocol that has not been claimed. Euler was hacked in 2023 and later returned the funds through some channel, but users need to actively claim them through specific tools and websites.
three ️⃣ Carefully and cautiously confirm
This situation must be very cautious. If you accidentally enter a website that imitates Euler, you are not going to collect money, but to give it away. I immediately checked carefully and confirmed that Euler was indeed attacked in 2023, and the official public record of all affected addresses and the amount that can be claimed in a Repo on GitHub.
After opening that file, I was surprised to find that my address was actually on the list, with a clear number of assets. Subsequently, I double checked through the official claim link provided and confirmed that I indeed had an asset that could be claimed.
four ️⃣ Why do I completely forget about this asset?
In retrospect, this money may have been casually put into some assets to test and experience Euler's products at that time. Later on, due to the small amount of money, I didn't pay much attention to the subsequent incidents of attacks and compensation, and gradually completely forgot about them.
five ️⃣ express gratitude
I have also passively locked up a little ETH for two years. To show my gratitude, I transferred some assets to the person who reminded me and replied to his email for the first time. He immediately expressed his gratitude to me on Twitter DM.
six ️⃣ Subsequent discoveries
By the way, I glanced at Euler's claim address and found that there are still assets worth $750000 lying there unclaimed, mainly WETH.
Nevertheless, I would like to remind everyone not to easily trust DM and emails.
