[U.S. Senators Call for Investigation into Trump's Crypto Project, Allegedly Linked to Illegal Actors in North Korea and Russia] BlockBeats News, November 18, according to CNBC, two U.S. senators are urging the Department of Justice and the Treasury Department to investigate a cryptocurrency company closely tied to former President Trump's family, which is suspected of having connections to illegal actors in North Korea and Russia. On Tuesday, U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren (Democrat, Massachusetts) and Jack Reed (Democrat, Rhode Island), minority members of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, expressed concerns in a letter to Attorney General Pamela Bondi and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. They stated that the Trump family-controlled and operated cryptocurrency company, World Liberty Financial, could pose a national security risk. According to a letter exclusively obtained by CNBC, the senators pointed out that World Liberty Financial lacks adequate safeguards to prevent bad actors from transferring funds or influencing corporate governance. The letter cited a report released in September by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit watchdog organization Accountable.US, which claimed that World Liberty Financial had sold its WLFI tokens to "various highly suspicious entities." The watchdog organization alleged that these entities include traders linked to the notorious North Korean hacking group on the blockchain, a sanctioned Russian "ruble-backed sanction evasion tool," Iranian cryptocurrency exchanges, and the well-known money laundering platform Tornado Cash.
