Grateful to @thebenbergman and @BusinessInsider for the feature this week. Let me cut through the headline about @OpenAI being the "AOL of AI." Here's what I actually meant: OpenAI is fantastic. I should've invested early (weird structure scared me off… lesson learned). But just like @AOL → @Yahoo → @Google, we're still in the early innings of who wins AI. We're at the top of the hype cycle right now. It'll dip. People will panic. Then it explodes upward and becomes bigger than anyone imagined. Same pattern every time: - "I'm not putting my credit card on @Amazon" → Can't live without it - Dotcom bubble → Internet changed everything - Crypto skeptics → @Bitcoin at 100K+ The question everyone asks: Will AI replace my job? Well in VC, the answer is, “not yet,” but we are pushing to make it happen at Draper. AI can analyze history, competition, and financials. But there's an X-factor to every entrepreneur that AI can't evaluate. When someone's doing something AI has never seen before? That takes human curiosity. The second question. The third. The fourth. Digging in to see if it's really promising. I can still outperform any AI in investing, but not for long. I am hoping to keep innovating until AI can do my job. Venture capital is a moral mission. When people feel like they can start businesses and disrupt the old establishment, they create a better world.(Tim Draper)
