[Standard Chartered: Tokenized RWA Market Expected to Reach $2 Trillion by 2028, with 'Majority' Based on Ethereum]
According to The Block, Standard Chartered Bank stated that aside from stablecoins, the market value of tokenized real-world assets (RWA) is expected to grow from approximately $35 billion to $2 trillion by 2028, an increase of about 5600%. Geoffrey Kendrick, the bank's head of digital asset research, noted that stablecoins lay the foundation for large-scale on-chain migration of other assets, with 'the vast majority' of such activities expected to occur on Ethereum due to its over 10 years of uninterrupted mainnet operation. Kendrick estimates that by 2028, tokenized money market funds and publicly listed stocks will account for the largest shares, with money market funds driven by corporate use of stablecoins reaching $750 billion, and publicly listed stocks reaching $750 billion once U.S. regulatory clarity is achieved. Kendrick believes lending, particularly RWA, is key to DeFi disrupting traditional finance, and DeFi has already entered a growth cycle. The U.S. 'Genius Act' accelerates stablecoin adoption, and the anticipated 'Digital Asset Market Structure and Clarity Act' is expected to further legalize activities such as asset tokenization. Even without this act, regulatory agencies acting within the law may establish clear rules, though the lack of regulatory clarity in the U.S. remains a risk.
