We are at one of the most promising points in Jamaica’s agricultural history. Very soon, more than 50% of our irrigable arable lands will have access to reliable irrigation. The Essex Valley project is well underway and nearing completion, while other key initiatives are steadily expanding irrigation access. The Ministry of Agriculture has acted with speed and focus through programmes, making more lands available for those ready to invest in farming. Recently, I visited the Parnassus AgroPARK, where farmers from across the island, including returning residents, are cultivating many acres of crops. These developments reaffirm that we are at a strong and stable point in our agricultural journey. Now is the time to expand, innovate, and invest in the future of Jamaica’s agriculture.(Andrew Holness)
