This is somewhat unexpected: a user transferred cryptocurrency to the wrong account, and Binance Co-CEO @heyibinance said she would personally cover the cost. Here's what happened: the user wanted to transfer money to an account on Binance Thailand and entered the recipient's UID directly on the main Binance website. The problem is that the main Binance website and its local platforms like Binance Thailand and Binance US operate separately, with different account systems and UIDs. The same string of numbers could correspond to two completely unrelated individuals on the main site and the Thai site. The money ended up in a stranger's account on the main site. Binance immediately froze the money, but the recipient was inactive and unresponsive. The user reported the incident to the police in Thailand and consulted a lawyer and the embassy, but the money was still not recovered. Binance's explanation is that the platform cannot directly transfer money from someone else's account. Many people say there is a secondary confirmation during the transfer, and the user simply didn't check it carefully; I've said something similar before. This user shared their Binance Thailand profile: no default profile picture or nickname, which the user couldn't add themselves. EU users with the same UID had names that were just gibberish and default profile pictures. The user said that even after viewing the confirmation page, they couldn't recognize who they were. This issue occurred in February and has resurfaced in the community these past few days. The top contributor responded: the money can't be recovered, but she's personally willing to compensate for the loss. Binance will strengthen secondary confirmation for transfers and is currently collecting product improvement suggestions, selecting the 10 best suggestions, each rewarded with 1 BNB. Regarding the money that can't be recovered according to regulations, the top contributor said she's willing to pay for it herself.
