Coinbase CEO: North Korean Hackers Attempted to Infiltrate Crypto Companies Through Remote Job Applications (Historical Video) Recent hacking incidents on crypto platforms have brought renewed attention to the infiltration methods of North Korean hackers. On August 20, 2025, Coinbase co-founder and CEO Brian Armstrong (@brian_armstrong) stated in an interview with Stripe (@stripe) that a large number of North Koreans attempted to gain entry into crypto companies through remote job applications, with some applicants receiving off-camera guidance during video interviews. In response, Coinbase required personnel with access to sensitive systems to attend onboarding training in the US and strengthened identity verification. He also revealed that attackers had offered hundreds of thousands of dollars to bribe customer service staff to secretly take photos of screens. Coinbase has therefore tightened customer service access and offered a $20 million reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of the attackers. Source: Stripe
